Rama Rajya Ratha Yatra enters Tamilnadu


The ‘Rama Rajya Rath Yatra’ was flagged off by Sree Rama Dasa Mission Universal Society with the cooperation of Hindu organisations on the Mahashivratri Day (February 13) from Ayodhya.
The objectives of Rath Yatra are: ‘Re-establishment of Rama Rajya, Include Ramayana in educational syllabus, Construct Shree Ram Temple at Ram Janma Bhoomi, Declare Thursday as National weekly holiday, and Declare World Hindu Day. The Rath Yatra under the leadership of Swami Krishnananda Saraswati, National President and Sreesakthi Saanthananda Maharishi, National General Secretary . A memorandum urging on this five point agenda will be submitted to the Honourable Prime Minister and His Excellency President by campaigning for 10 lakh signature from the public and 5000 signatures of Sanyasis during Yatra.

VHP has extended its support to the smooth functioning of yatra in Tamilnadu. The yatra entered Tamilnadu on 20th March at Puliyarai, Tirunelveli and pass through Sengottai, Ilangi, Tenkasi, Kadayanalloor, Puliyangudi, Vasudevanalloor, Sivagiri and proceed to Rameswaram via Rajapalayam and Madurai. Local District Collector Sandeep Nanduri has imposed section 144 from 6 pm on March 19 to 6 am on March 23. It is said that the order was passed to thwart any plans of miscreants to instigate violence and spread communal tension during Yatra. It was “reliably learnt that some miscreants are planning to utilise the opportunity to instigate violence and spread communal tension; which will not be limited to this district only. A serious and grave possibility of public order disturbance, communal clash, danger to public peace and tranquility exists. “Even a minor incident will snowball into a major communal clash,” the report read. 

Earlier on 19th March, three AIADMK allies MLAs Thamimun Ansari Manithaneya Jananayaga Katchi, S. Karunas,(Mukkulathor Pulipada and U Thaniarasu (Kongu Ilaignar Peravai) and IUML MLA K A M Muhammed Abubacker urged the TN Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal to take up the special mention regarding the Rama Rajya Ratha Yatra. Speaker refused to take up their special mention on the issue as they gave notice just ahead of the commencement of session. Marking the protest, the MLAs staged a walkout. Political opponents demanded ban on Yatra as it may lead to communal harmony. Police arrested political leaders and protestors who were for protesting against Yatra.
