Press Release - Peoples March for Unity to Save the Country

PRESS RELEASE

“PEOPLES MARCH FOR UNITY” to “SAVE THE COUNTRY”
from
Rajghat to Parliament Street

1.       India is one Country. The Constituent Assembly on 06th November 1949 adopted the Indian Constitution. In the Preamble the ‘People of India’ resolved amongst other things, the Unity of the Nation.
2.       We are concerned with the objectionable slogans raised on 9th February 2016 at JNU. Particularly:
·         Bharat ki barbadi tak, Kashmir ki azadi tak. jung rahegi, jung rahegi.
·         Go back India, Go back
·         Bharat ke sau tukde honge, Inshallah-Inshallah

3.       The echo of such slogans have later been heard at Jadhavpur University and other places. In Kashmir, certain people have organized rallies titled ‘Thank you JNU’. We have read reports that such slogans may be repeated in other Universities and places.
4.       This clearly is an organized attempt by disruptive forces, possibly with foreign funding to attempt to balkanize India. A firm resolve is needed at all levels including the people and the Government to resist such attempts and to maintain the Unity and sovereignty of India.
5.       We support the Freedom of Expression guaranteed in the Constitution. However, this cannot  include  incitement to acts of violence or calls for the dismemberment of India.
6.       It is a matter of pride for us that we served in the defense services of India. It is said that, ‘once a soldier, always a soldier’. Our commitment to the integrity of the Country has inspired us to call the people of Delhi to assemble at Rajghat tomorrow i.e. Sunday 21st February 2016 at 10:30 AM and to march to Parliament Street for a public meeting.
7.       Mahatma Gandhi said, “Our ability to reach Unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilization”. Our march is for ‘Unity of the Country’.  It is to uphold the Constitution.  While we support, the freedom of expression, this cannot be turned into a license for attempts to divide India.
8.       India is one Country and shall remain so.
9.      We appeal to the people of Delhi to march with us tomorrow morning and to take a vow to be prepared for any effort and sacrifices to safeguard the freedom and integrity of our Motherland.

Air Marshall PK Roy, Major Gen.  Bakshi, Major Gen. Raj Malhotra, Admr Shekhar Sinha, Lt. Gen Ravi Sahni, Lt. Gen Sinha, Lt. Gen Sandeep Singh, Major Gen Chakravarthy, Major Gen. Vijay Dhall, Major Gen. NN Gupta. Lt. Gen RN Singh.
