ABVP Tamilnadu calls for a change



ABVP’s 20th State conference held in Chennai on 15th and 16th February, 2014 with a vision ‘Thamilaga ezhuchi; bharatha valarchi’.  The conference was inaugurated by hoisting the ABVP flag by Sri Subbaiah, State President, ABVP.

Sri Paarivendhar, Founder and Chancellor of SRM University lit the lamp and addressed the gathering.   Sri Raghnanthan Ji, All India Joint Organizing Secretary of ABVP gave a special address.  






Public address by student leaders

In the evening a public rally was held and the student leaders addressed the public.  The Public Meeting was presided by Sri Audiappan, President, Tamilnadu Hr. Sec School, Headmasters Association, Chennai.  Sri R. Rajkumar, National Secretary, ABVP was the Chief Guest of the meeting.

Sri Ravikumar, International Joint Secretary, Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh enlightened the students on ‘India in the world today’ – a power point presentation explaining the rich heritage and contribution of Indians especially Tamil people to the world. The session was presided by Sri M Balasubramaniam, Director, Mangal Thirth Estate Limited, Chennai.

Students’ power is nation’s power; Students should raise themselves, cross the barriers, come together and work for the nation.  Explaining in detail on ‘ABVP—Mission, Vision and Action’, Sri Sunil Ambekar, All India Organising Secretary, ABVP, stressed that students should commit themselves for change in the system and society.  They should come forward to fight against exploitation, corruption and crime against women.  Smt. Thangam Meganathan, Chairperson, Rajalakshmi Group of institutions presided over the session.

Speaking on a session ‘Stop Liquor—A Medical and Social Need’ Professor V Chocklingam, Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai highlighted the evils of consuming liquor and appealed to the students to fight against this.  Sri Tamilaruvi Manian, Gandhiya Makkal Iyakkam, gave an elaborate speech on the inaction of the Government in regulating the liquor shops. Raising his allegation against the Government of Tamilnadu selling liquor through 6800 Tamilnadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) shops in the State, wherein the age group of 14 to 35 are most affected, he stressed vigil among students is the need of the hour. 
Two days conference discussed various issues and passed two resolutions.  The first resolution is to bring a change in the education scenario and the second resolution on the present scenario of the State- being
  • ·    to call upon the Government of Tamilnadu to take stern law and order action against Terrorism and naxalites who are freely roaming in Tamilnadu,
  • ·       To safeguard the fishermen in the coastal areas of Tamilnadu
  • ·       To restore back island of Kutchch
  • ·       To regulate the liquor shops
  • ·       To call upon the Government of Tamilnadu to safeguard eco-sensitive areas (especially the Western Ghats region of Theni District)
  • ·       To regulate and safeguard the nature against illegal sand mining

In the concluding session, Sri Anand, State Organising Secretary, ABVP called upon the youth to plunge into action for betterment of the society in the present scenario.
Around 260 representatives from 40 colleges in 14 districts attended the State Conference.  The conference ended with a national song ‘Vande Mataram’.
