RESOLUTION PASSED AT NATIONAL OFFICE BEARERS MEETING HELD AT SOLAN (H.P.) ON 2ND AND 3RD JULY 2013

BMS extends its support to agitating NLC joint movement

OPPOSE THE GOVERNMENT MOVE TO SELL 5% SHARES OF NEYVELI LIGNITE LIMITED TO THE PRIVATE PEOPLE AND DEMAND TO DROP THE MOVE IMMEDIATELY—BMS”

During the All India Office Bearers meeting of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh held on 2nd and 3rd July, 2013 at SOLAN, Himachal Pradesh has unanimously resolved to oppose the ‘move of the Government of India to sell the 5% shares of NYVELI LIGNITE CORPORATION’ and decided to support the agitation programme including strike by the 17,000 workers, Officers and Contract Labour from 10 PM of 3rd July, 2013.
Neyveli Lignite Corporation was started in 1956 as a corporate body by the then Prime Minister Pt.Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth day 14th November. The mines were spread over by 60 villages surrounding Neyveli and the entire population of the area was sent out of the villages who are now residing in different parts of Tamil Nadu. One farmer has given 600 acres of his land to NLC thinking that NLC is a Public Sector organization which could provide employment to thousands of youth and for the development of Tamil Nadu state and the country.
From then on Neyveli Lignite Corporation has been increasing its productivity in producing lignite and the power, the power especially feeding all the southern states of India. The Company earned through the sales around Rs.4,866.85 crs for the year 2011-12 over Rs. 4,295.95 Crs of previous year. Profit before Tax for the year 2011-12 is Rs.1983.89 crs over Rs.1684.55% of previous year. Tax provision for the year 2011-12 is Rs.572.56 crs. The company has proposed to pay a dividend of 28% for 2011-12 which is more than 23% of previous year. The total man power is 17,733 and about 10 thousand contract labour are working in the company.
Now, the Government of India has declared 5% disinvestment in NLC which would be sold to private entrepreneurs which means the Government of India has paved the way for privatization of NLC which is a profit making NAVARATNA company extending huge wealth in the form of lignite and power to the country. All the 16 Trade Unions representing the employees and 4 Officers Associations are opposing the decision of Government and started the agitation programme from 25.06.2013 by holding gate meetings, wearing protest badges, Dharnas, Hunger strike etc., All the political parties of Tamil Nadu including ruling AIADMK are protesting against the decision of Government of India. Neither the Management nor Government of India are coming forward to concede the demand of the unions it was decided to go on indefinite strike from 10 pm of 3rd July, 2013 till the disinvestment in NLC is withdrawn.
The demands of the workers are :
1. Government of India shall withdraw the disinvestment IN NLC forthwith
2. Neyveli Lignite Corporation shall be exempted from the purview of SEBI regulations

Disinvestment in Neyveli Lignite Corporation is to be condemned tooth and nail as the land belongs to poor people who have given it to develop the Tamil Nadu State and for employment of youth. No Government has right to sell the assets of the Company or sell the shares of such a profit making PSU. Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh strongly supports the agitation including indefinite strike by all the Trade unions and also participates in the movement till the disinvestment is dropped. Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh therefore, demands the Government of India to withdraw the disinvestment proposals in Neyveli Lignite Corporation immediately.
