As of date over 10.75 lakh people were benefitted since the beginning of the lockdown announced by the Government on the 24th March 2020. 13200 volunteers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Sevabharathi Then Tamilnadu and Sevashram Trust spreading across Key Districts of Southern Tamilnadu that include Kanyakumari, Rameswaram, Tanjore, Tiruchirappalli, Madurai in Southern Tamilnadu and Coimbatore and Tirupur in Western Tamilnadu have been doing yeoman service – delivering food for the needy and foodless in remote parts of these regions to both city and rural folk who depend on daily income for sustenance.
Over 56000 people benefited food deliveries done by the volunteers every day. Apart from this, each family covered by the system being given one bag of rice, vegetables, oil, pulses each worth Rs. 1000/- for further sustenance.
During the period over 3.68 Lakh people were given Kabasura Kudineer – an ayurvedic preparation meant to increase their immunity and general health.
All sections of the society to name a few – transgenders, gypsies, migrant labourers, tribals, crematorium workers, police personal on duty, conservancy workers, Government night shelters, working person in hostels, road-side dwellers were benefitted.
In Coimbatore for example Volunteers have been supporting the Government Medical College Hospital – CMCH – where supply for about 720 glasses of hot milk for doctors on duty as well as patients in the morning and evening and night tiffin for them.
Apart from this, safety products like masks, hand wash liquids, soaps, are given to the needy to ensure that they maintain hygiene during these critical times.
Regular counselling, distribution of masks and hand pamphlets are routine activity undertook by the volunteers to augment the efforts taken by the Government in ensuring proper practice of social distancing and stay-at-home to counter the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Maximum Hygiene has been maintained among the volunteers and all of them are counselled regularly on the need to be safe – wearing masks and ensuring that they frequently wash their hands or sanitize them as an absolute best practice code apart from periodic health checks by volunteering doctors and paramedics.
Delivery systems have been devised to ensure that there is no overlap of logistics and all the needy who have expressed helplessness or have been identified as economically or socially fragile have been covered in the net.
