CBI ARRESTS AN ABSCONDING ACCUSED IN A CASE RELATING TO BOMB BLAST AT THE MADRAS HEAD QUARTER OF A SOCIAL ORGANISATION

The Central Bureau of
Investigation has today arrested an absconding accused in a case
relating to Bomb Blast at the Madras Head Quarter of a social
organisation. The accused was absconding since last 24 years.
CBI registered a case on
the request of Tamilnadu Government and taken over the investigation of
the case from State Police which was earlier registered at their Chetpet
Police Station & later transferred to CB-CID, Chennai. The incident
happened on 08.08.1993 at about 1.45 p.m. when a powerful bomb blast
occurred in the State Hqrs, building of a social organisation at
M.V.Naidu Street, Chetpet, Madras resulting in the death of 11 persons
and injury to 7 others with extensive damage to the building.
After completion of
investigation, CBI had filed charge sheets against 18 accused persons
u/s. 120-B r/w 302, 324, 326, 419, 436, 201, 153-A, 109 & 34 of IPC,
Sec.9 B(1)(b) of Explosives Act, Sec. 3,4,5 and 6 of Explosives
Substances Act and Sec. 3 (1), 3(2), 3(3) & 3(4) of TADA(P) Act,
1987. The said absconder, who was instrumental in procuring explosive
substances for the terrorist attack and in arranging hideouts for the
prime accused in the incident, in various places, was absconding right
from the stage of investigation. Since he could not be traced out even
after strenuous efforts, the TADA Court, Chennai, on 05.01.1994, ordered
Proclamation against him. On 21.6.2007, the Special Judge, TADA
Court-II, Chennai, pronounced judgment against the remaining accused
persons convicting 11 and acquitting 4 and charges abated against two
accused persons, who had died. The trial was pending against the
absconding accused.
The arrested accused will be produced before the Designated Court, Chennai.
