RSS Pune Mahanagar has called for a Saamajik Raksha Bandhan Maha Abhiyan from 18th to 28th August, 2016 campaigning for e-waste mukt Pune. In this mega campaign, on 28 August, from 9 am to 1 pm more than 45 tonnes of e-waste was collected and sent for scientific and recycling process.
On August 18, the message of elimination of plastic and e-waste was launched. During this campaign more than 3 lakh houses were contacted. Nearly 15 lakh citizens were contacted and awareness about plastic and e-waste elimination was spread. This door-to-door campaign received over-whelming response from the public.
On Sunday, 28th August from the morning crowd thronged to 44 centres and 173 sub-centres in the city. E-waste like Bottles, cans, various toys, plastic bags as trash and old dysfunctional addict mobile, charger, wires, chords, Fan, Cooler, scanner, DVD, VCD player, CD, freeze, in TV, CPU, keyboard, computer monitor, Taperecorder, ironing, hairdryer, inverter, microwave, printers etc was collected.
Under the guidance of RSS, more than 70 institutions, organisations and banks participated in this Maha-abhiyan. In this 10 day campaign, more than 15000 RSS volunteers actively participated in campaigning. Speaking about this great campaign RSS, Pune Mahanagar Sanghchalak Shri. Ravindra Vnjarvadkar said, "Society itself must come forward to resolve various problems faced by society. We have to rethink on depending Government machinery for each societal problem. Society has the power to associate itself and these efforts have proved success". Maharashtra Minister for Social Welfare Shri Dilip Kamble visited the centre at Kothroad area.
