National Education Policy - A Pragmatic Approach towards better education

An interactive programme on National Educational Policy - A Pragmatic Apporach towards better education was organized by Vidyabharati, Samskrita Bharati, ABVP and National Thinkers Forum in Chennai today.

Eminent speakers like Shri A Kalanithi, Shri Maalan, Shri Kanaka Sabapathy, Shri Vaidya Subramanaiam, Shri Ramachandran, Shri Subbaiah Shanmugam, Shri Vishwanaathan enlightened the importance of educational policy note.

The programme organized by Vidya Bharathi and other organisations on National Education Policy was a platform to discuss and express opinion on key issues of the policy. This was held on 20.7.16 at Maharishi Vidya Mandhi.

The Education policy introduced in the year 1986 had some changes whenever there is a need and implemented.

The changes in the past 30 years, development in industry is not possible with the existing education system alone.

Hence the Central Govt brought New Education Polity 2016 after the advice from Educationists, Scientists, Experts, Parents and public. This is brought out keeping in mind the Nations’ development. The New National policy on Education objective is to harness the full potential of a young, vibrant population to India’s development.

This new Education policy assures the following:
  • Job opportunities by introducing technical education
  • Students of first generation getting quality education on par with the private school education
  • RTE Act 2009 provides that no child shall be required to pass any board examination till completion of elementary education. The compulsory promotion till 8th standard has been changed and only till 5th standard this will be implemented as the survey proved that students continuously promoted till 8h standard finds it very difficult in 9th standard. The Continuous Comprehensive evaluation will be introduced to enable the students to have skill oriented education.
  • RTE Act is extended to all institution in the larger national interest.
  • The three language formula was formulated and every child is expected to learn three languages namely the mother tongue
  • The students who lag in education will be given technical education, art and craft, sports etc., This can be imparted through National skill development corporation, skill development for age 14 is a welcome step
  • Yoga, samskruthum and cultural values are given a big push which is very essential today.
The unique feature of this policy
  • Education through information and communication technology
  • Increasing the gross enrolment ration
  • Increasing 6% of the expenditure on education from the ttotal economy.
  • Aptitude test for student to give them for proper guidance
The new policy on Education has tried to address these deficiencies and challenges along with the need to sharply increase the quality of Indian education, across the board. It offers a framework for change, make education modern with optimal use of technology, without compromising on India’s traditions and heritage.
