Nation was shocked to
hear the loss of a great visionary,
‘missile man’, patriot, Scientist and former President of India Dr. APJ Abdul
Kalam who passed away today at Shillong, Meghalaya. He was born on October 15,
1931 and raised in Rameswaram, Tamilnadu. A humble man served the nation as the scientific
advisor to the Government with his work at DRDO and ISRO.
Dr. M L Raja, Prant Sanghachalak expressed his shock over the
sudden demise of Dr. Kalam. He stated, “A
great patriot, his appeal to youth for national reconstruction has generated
huge enthusiasm amongst them. Nation has
lost his beloved son”.
Though he was an achiever, he was very
particular in highlighting the contribution by his junior colleagues. This great quality
of his clearly brought out in his autobiography 'Wings of Fire'.
Kalam has emphatically established in his
autobiography that India needs atomic weapons for its defence by citing the
words of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to the same effect, even while anti-national
groups were propagating to the contrary.
A man of simple living and high thinking Kalam had a great
respect for teachings of Bhagavad Gita as well as Thirukural. He enjoyed the swaras of carnatic music by
being engrossed in playing the Veena. In the evening of his life, Kalam
constantly tried to reach out to the next generation so that they can be
inspired to dream of a glorious Bharat.
