350 volunteeers participated in a protest called for by local unit of VHP in
Suchindram, Kanyakumari District. District
Joint Secretary Kaliappan, President Kuzhaikaadhar demanded for replacement of
Vivekananda Statue which was deliberately removed by Officials. The volunteers were arrested by police.
Earlier,
the panchayat officials removed the Vivekanandar statue near Thanumalayaswamy
temple at Suchindram following protest by political parties including AIADMK
and DMK demanding to remove the statue.
