DMK’s fear of isolation
Surprisingly, a greeting on the occasion of Ganesh Chathurthi festival was posted on the Social Media accounts of DMK treasurer M K Stalin, a declared atheist. The post went viral and shocked only DMK leaders. The DMK party was quick enough to disown it with these words: “The greeting was issued without Stalin’s prior permission and not as per his wish. The greeting was issued by enthusiastic people who are maintaining his social media accounts”. This clearly betrays the rumblings inside DMK. Ordinary DMK members want to associate with the increasingly popular Ganesh Chathurthi celebrations all over the State. They watch with bathed breath over 10,000 huge Ganesha idols being taken in processions and lakhs of people enthusiastically joining the celebrations every year. They also notice their competitor Jayalalitha right royally sending out Vinayaka Chathurthi greetings. So they are afraid that the DMK would be isolated by the surging Hindu wave. Therefore this drama of ‘unofficial’ greeting and its quick withdrawal was enacted.
Separatist lie exposed
The first ever pan India multi-lingual essay competition on Teachers for school students announced by Government of India’s Education Ministry on the occasion of ‘Teacher’s Day’, September 5 was named ‘Guru Utsav 2014’. Immediately, a storm developed inside the tea cup of Tamilnadu separatists’ politics. Karunanidhi and his cohorts lashed out at the use of the two Samskrit words ‘Guru’ and ‘Utsav’ and termed it as Aryan design to downgrade Tamil. They even spread the lie that ‘Teachers Day’ was being renamed as ‘Guru Utsav’. Incidentally, in TV debates nationalist panelists neatly exposed the hue and cry over Guru Utsav by exhibiting the Central circular in 23 languages giving details of Guru Utsav.
A unifying voice
Even while businesslike hints are being sent to Sri Lanka by Government of India, and political parties of that country eagerly awaiting a way out for the Sri Lankan Tamil issue, for the first time, a senior Aadhenam (Mataadhipathi of Shaiva Sampradaya), has advised one and all to tread a path of wait and watch. The pontiff of Dharmapuram Aadhenam Shanmuga Desika Gnanasambanda Paramacharya Swami pointed out that Sinhalese people as well as the Tamils hail from Orissa and Tamilnadu respectively and so both belong to Bharat. On the occasion, the Aadhenam expressed high hopes on the new Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He was delivering a sermon on the occasion of a book release function at Chidambaram on July 6, 2014.
