Indefinite Hunger Strike by Union Office bearers of NLC - Day 12

In a joint action, around 177 office bearers of the trade unions including 3 women are on an indefinite hunger strike in front of ‘Q’ bridge, Neyveli opposing the disinvestment proposed by the Union Government. Sri V Murugan General Secretary of BMS, State Secretary N Elangovan, and District-Unit Secretary P Sagadev Rao are also participating in the hunger strike. The indefinite hunger strike began on 13.7.13.

Neyveli Lignite Corporation was started in 1956 as a corporate body by the then Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth day 14th November. The mines were spread over by 60 villages surrounding Neyveli and the entire population of the area was sent out of the villages who are now residing in different parts of Tamil Nadu. One farmer has given 600 acres of his land to NLC thinking that NLC is a Public Sector organization which could provide employment to thousands of youth and for the development of Tamil Nadu state and the country. 

Now, the Government of India has declared 5% disinvestment in NLC which would be sold to private entrepreneurs which means the Government of India has paved the way for privatization of NLC which is a profit making NAVARATNA company extending huge wealth in the form of lignite and power to the country. All the 16 Trade Unions representing the employees and 4 Officers Associations are opposing the decision of Government from 25.06.2013. 

Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has passed a resolution at the All India Office Bearers’ Meeting held at Solan, Himachal Pradesh to oppose the ‘move of the Government of India to sell the 5% shares of Neyveli Lignite Corporation’ and decided to support the agitation.

என்.எல்.சி. நிறுவனப் பங்குகள் விற்பனையைக் கண்டித்து என்எல்சி தொழிலாளர்கள் கடந்த 3ஆம் தேதி முதல் மேற்கொண்டுள்ள காலவரையற்ற வேலைநிறுத்தப் போராட்டத்தின் தொடர்ச்சியாக சனிக்கிழமை 13/07/13 முதல் ஸ்கியூ பாலத்தில் தொழிற்சங்கக் கூட்டமைப்பு சார்பில் 3 பெண்கள் ஊழியர்கள் உட்பட 177 தொழிலாளர்கள் உண்ணாவிரதப் போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்டுள்ளனர். மேலும் நீரழிவு நோய் மற்றும் ரத்த கொதிப்பு உள்ளவர்கள் பங்கேற்க கூட்டமைப்பினரால் அனுமதி மறுக்கபட்டுள்ளது. 

இந்த உண்ணாவிரதப் போராட்டத்துக்கு, தொமுச தலைவர் திருமாவளவன் தலைமை தாங்கினார். அ.தொ.ஊ.ச. செயலர் உதயக்குமார் தொடங்கி வைத்தார். தொழிற்சங்க நிர்வாகிகள், அபு, ராஜவன்னியன், ஸ்ரீதரன், அண்ணாதுரை, அல்போன்ஸ், தேவானந்தன், செல்வராஜ், திலகர், பாஸ்கரன், சுந்தரமூர்த்தி, திருநாவுக்கரசு, வேல்முருகன், குப்புசாமி V .முருகன் உள்ளிட்ட பலர் உண்ணாவிரதத்தில் பங்கேற்றுள்ளனர். BMS சார்பாக பொது செயலாளர் V .முருகன், மாநில செயலர் N. இளங்கோவன், பகுதி செயலாளர் P. சகாதேவ் ராவ் ஆகிய 3 பேர் கலந்து கொண்டுள்ளனர். உண்ணாவிரதத்தின் 2ஆம் நாளான இன்று 4 தொழிலாளர்கள் மயங்கி விழுந்தனர் அதில் ஒருவர் மேல் சிகிச்சகாக சென்னை அப்பல்லோ மருத்துவமனைக்கு கொண்டு செல்லப்பட்டுள்ளார். இன்று உண்ணாவிருததத்தில் BMS மாநில தலைவர் திரு சரவணபவன் பாரதீய போக்குவரத்து தொழிலாளர் சங்க தலைவர் திரு மீனாட்சிசுந்தரம் BMS சென்னை மாவட்ட தலைவர் பால்வண்ணன் ஆகியோர் கலந்துகொண்டு வாழ்த்தி பேசினர்.
