When P C Roy came to Tanjore and Madras to write a book…

Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy, (2 August 1861 – 16 June 1944) the first chemist of modern India, single-handedly brought to light the history of chemistry in ancient India. Roy's magnum opus, A History of Hindu Chemistry was penned by Roy at the request of French savant Marcellin Berthelot, who had wanted to know about contributions made by ancient Hindus to chemistry. Roy collected old and moth-eaten manuscripts from places like Madras, Tanjore, Alwar, Kashmir,Varanasi, Kathmandu and Lhasa to write the book. (P C Roy's birthday falls on August 2).
