Digital Jihad hits Thanjavur

As if to suggest that Pakistan-induced jihad against India is taking several dimensions, the newly dedicated website of Thanjavur Maharaja Serfoji’s Saraswati Mahal Library (TMSSML) has been hacked by jihadis. Those who visited the official web-page of TMSSML at www.tmssmlibrary.in on December 14, were shocked to see that the page was defaced. With an animated Pakistan national flag on the screen, it read “AMIR HAXOR, We are_Pak_Cyber_Lion”. Also written in the site was “Freedom of Kashmir is our mission”. Dr N Subbaiyan, Collector and director (in-charge) of the Library said a complaint has been filed.

Ramayanam in Villu Paattu that too in Samskritam

The few hundred strong audience at the Samskrita Sammelanam were pleasantly surprised to witness a performance by girl students of Queen Mary’s College Chennai narrating Ramayanam with music. To add to their surprise, the girls adopted the popular folk performance of ‘Villu paattu’ (villu is bow; paattu is sangeetham). To cap it all, the performance was in simple Samskritam with a fair measure of humor. Samskrita Bharati is organizing such district level conferences all over the country and this event was one of the seven Sammelanams held in Chennai. In all, 2600 Samskrita enthusiasts participated in these conferences addressed by eminent persons including former CAG M Vittal, former Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswamy, Sahiktya Academy Awardee and popular Tamil Novelist Joe D Cruz.

Thanks to ABGP, Coimbatore residents are happy!

Sree Balamurugan Coimbatore convenor of Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat, filed a PIL which was decreed upon by the Madras High Court recently. As a result of this successful legal attempt by this consumer activist, an attempt to rob Coimbatore Municipal Corporation of 13.5 cents of land reserved for public parks, play fields and public purposes by vested interests was thwarted. A member of the Municipal Corporation with political backing was behind this illegal conversion of the piece of land.
