On the eve of Swami Vivekananda Birthday celebrations, a meet with Conservancy workers at Ward Office No.133, Chennai Corporation at West Mambalam was held. Shri Sambamurth ji initiated casual discussions about their daily livelihood, challenges faced in their work, atmosphere at home etc. They expressed that they were not able to give much attention to home as they have to start early in the morning by 4.00 a.m. to reach the work place by 6 a.m. for duty. In spite of all hurdles, they felt happy that they were able to educate their children in colleges. ‘Your duty is to clean the dirt and that is why you are paid’ – this was the attitude of the people before. But now, cleanliness awareness can be seen among the people and celebrities and they come forward to participate in keeping the place clean. Further, treating them as human beings and part of the society will motivate them to work more, they added.
Sah Prant Karyavah, Uttar Tamilnadu Shri Sambamurthy Ji, Prant Karyalaya Pramuk Shri Srinivasan Ji, Shri Muthukrishnan, Vibhag Sampark Pramuk, social worker Shri Balu ji, Smt Pushpalatha, T.Nagar Co-operative Bank Chief Shri Elumalai along with 22 conservancy workers did pushpanjali to Swami Vivekananda. Pongal bags were distributed to them by Shri Elumalai.

Is thee no better word than "Scavengers"???? Disappointed..
ReplyDeleteSo many words shall be coined like -
DeleteHealth Sevaks,
Arogya Sevaks,
Swachh sevaks,
Swachh Rakshaks,
Public Health Protectors ( PHP ),
Public Health Custodians ( PHC ) and so on.
RSS's voice against manual scavenging must be MORE AND MORE LOUDER. Eventhough in tamilnadu, manual scavenging is almost nil, some vested interests like VCK etc.. are making unnecessary noises and provocations on every public gathering, especially related to dalit events. So RSS must more vocal on this. The vested interests like VCK are all coming out only with negative propaganda .BUT RSS must come with more positive agenda and more projects for scavengers and bring them into national mainstream ( since they are being dragged by the abovementioned parties into narrow regionalism ).
