Strength Of
Youth Sapped,
Government
Coffers Overflows!
Revenue
from Government run liquor shops in Tamilnadu this year is a whopping 26,295
crore, rupees 3,000 crore more than last year.
Government uses this income to issue free rice to the poor sections of
society. But liquor destroys
families. So ABVP has taken up ‘No
liquor campaign’ in front of the Government liquor shops in the state. The concern of ABVP is that the younger
generation has increasingly become addicted to alcohol and in turn has been
rendered weak. During the campaign, ABVP activists frustrated before liquor
shop customers and appealed to them to give up liquor.
It Was A
Non-Programme Programme!
Imagine,
housewives playing traditional game of pebbles (ammanai in tamil), pallanguzhi,
pandi, paramapadam etc. in the portico of Chennai RSS Karyalaya, with hundreds
of children and youth watching in delight.
But this happened on March 2. The
occasion was ‘Sakthi Sangamam’, and informal gathering of families of RSS
sympathizers, an annual affair held between 3.30 in the afternoon and 8.00 in
the night. The highlight of the
programme was informal chit-chat that over 1700 persons from over 750 families,
men, women and children had with Kshetra, Prantha Sangha/Vivida Kshetra
Adhikaris in all the three floors of the Karyalaya. In addition to the traditional games there
was a power-point on ‘Glory of Bharat’, health tips by Ayurveda experts, and
symposium on Hindutva in daily life by Sri Mahadevan (Pranth Sadasya), Sri
Srikanth (Jilla Sah Karyawah), Sri Vinod (Jilla Bowdhik Pramuk) and Smt
Durgadevi.

Pardon Me Your Honour, Where Is The
Punishment?
H A Martin,
bishop, Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church in Trichy, has been 'punished' by the
Madras high court for contempt of court, and how? ‘Seek pardon from your god,
and that shall be the punishment for your contemptuous act’. The moot question
was whether the order holding the bishop guilty of contempt of court, and to
punish him for his contemptuous act, and thereafter to direct him to seek
pardon from the source in whose jurisdiction he has some faith, would amount to
a sentence enabling him to file a statutory appeal under Section 19(1) of the
Contempt of Courts Act? It may be noted that on an earlier occasion, the Court
had ordered a Congress MLA to stay in Gandhi Museum in Madurai and study Gandhi
Ji’s works for a period. It was the
punishment!
