Azamgarh, November 25: While the parts of Uttar Pradesh was witnessing
communal riots of worst kind, the activists of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh
(RSS) and Muslim Rashtriya Manch, who are often labeled as Muslim-baiters
and anti-Islam, presented the best example of Hindu-Muslim unity by extending
help in the marriage of grand-daughter of Colonel NIzamuddin, the once trusted
colleague of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
Col Nizamuddin, who is born in 1900, remained in Netaji's Azad Hind
Fauz from 1943 to 45. His expertise in handling heavy guns and driving brought
him closer to Subhash Chandra Bose. He changed his name to Nizamuddin from his
original name Saifuddin as he was working as secret service agent. Presently he
lives in Dhakwa of Mubarakpur in Uttar Pradesh with his centurian Burmese wife
and the youngest son Akram.
Varanasi-based Muslim women's organization took initiative to help this
freedom fighter in conducting the marriage of his grand-daughter. Ironically,
no one but the RSS and Muslim Rashtriya Manch responded to their appeal to help
this family which is almost living a life incognito in a small village in
Mubarakpur area.
Nizamuddin, who was once the most trusted lieutenant of Netaji, was facing
hardship for the marriage of his granddaughter Somaiya that was scheduled for
November 13. When the Muslim Mahila Foundation of Varanasi came to know about
the financial condition of his family, they came forward and appealed to social
organizations and philanthropists to help this family of freedom fighter. But
alas! No one responded to their appeal.
It was the initiative of RSS pracharak and Patron of Muslim Rashtriya
Manch Indresh Kumar that steps could be taken to collect a sumptuous amount and
offered to his family so that the marriage could be solemnized.
Indresh Kumar contacted the President of the Foundation Nazneen Ansari
and offered help. His emissary visited the house of Col Nizamuddin and offered
some cash and chunri for the bride besides some gifts. Mahirajdhwaj Singh,
national organization co-convener of MRM and Krishna Mohan of RSS called on Col
Nizamuddin on behalf of Indresh Kumar and extended best wishes.
Indresh Kumar had discussed this proposal at the meeting of Central
Executive Committee held at Ujjain on October 19 and the MRM had passed a
resolution to extend all possible help to the family of Col Nizamuddin.
Commenting on this gesture Akram, son of Col Nizamuddin said that their
family was overwhelmed by this initiative and honour from RSS and MRM.
