Punyathithi of S.R.Ranganathan,
Father of Library Science is observed today. Born in Tanjore, Tamilnadu he has contributed
to the field of library, five laws of library science – a theory detailing the
principles of operating a library system. He also developed the colon
classification in library system. His
birthday is observed every year as the 'National Library Day' in India. His major
achievement was the establishment of Documentation Research and Training Centre
as a Department and Research Centre in the Indian Statistical Institute in
Bangalore.
