RSS Favours Return of Displaced Kashmiri Pandits

Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghachalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat today favoured re-settlement of displaced Kashmiri Pandits and demanded creation of a favourable atmosphere for their return to the valley.

"It is unfortunate that those Kashmiri Pandits have been ousted from their houses and they are living as refugee in their own country since last 20 years, which is not the case anywhere in the world," Bhagwat said at a book release function here.

He said about 3 lakh Kashmiri Pandits are living in exile and now the government is talking about their return.

"But it would be possible if government provides them adequate security. Otherwise they will face lot of problem and will be forced to give up Hindu religion. Centre never thought of Kashmiri Pandits and never created a conducive environment for their safe return," the RSS chief said.

He earlier released a book Mission Kashmir written by Senior journalist Ravindra Dani. BJP national president Nitin Gadkari and former J&K Governor Lt Gen S K Sinha were also present.

Bhagwat said India was under a wrong impression that United States will assist India in solving the Kashmir issue. Indeed US was interested to use Kashmir as a base to counter China. The motives of US have always been for selfish gain, he added.

Bhagwat said threat perception in Kashmir was not just limited to that part but entire country was affected.

Bhagwat flayed the Centre's policy saying, "we don't have a vision document."

He said efforts should be made to recapture all the lands in our possession. He disagreed with the opinion of some people who talk about making LOC as international border.

Gadkari said that the country was facing internal threats and its China borders are not safe.

"The situation is not good on the Assam front where large number of Bangladeshi infiltrators were coming and no efforts have been made to stop them.If it is not stopped than Assam will be an East Pakistan in the making," he said.

Gadkari alleged that PMO was taking decisions under pressure from the US.

He said after three successive defeats at the hands of India, our neighbour Pakistan was exporting cross border terrorism.

He blamed first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for taking the Kashmir issue to United Nations despite reservations from the then Home Minister Vallabh Bhai Patel.

Sinha recalling his long association with Kashmir right from his posting as Major to Governor of J&K, said the country missed three golden opportunities in bringing the situation under its control.

Pak Occupied Kashmir would never have happened but the opportunity was let go due to wrong political decisions, he said.

Pakistan never allowed plebiscite but in 2002, a Pakistan supporting UK minister conducted referendum on the issue in which 61 per cent people favoured living in India, he said.
